Training: a tool for self-actualization.
Whenever we are with a group we have the chance to become aware of our
many shadows and unfinished business. Training with intention can be a tool
for transformation.
We need to be at choice and to be able to go into our three, four or more
top states while we are giving a training , but first and foremost we need
to be opened and to embrace with acceptance and curiosity every feeling,
thought and memory that comes to mind during the process itself.
When we encounter different faces and styles, we are about to recognize
triggers that can be used to discover our hidden frames, among other things.
We do develop as human beings in relationship with others, there is no
other way . Our reactions to others are expressions of the type of world we
live in.
When we train we are exposed to a dozen of facets and reactions from others
that help us to realize triggers and states that we would not experience-
otherwise. Groups are far too common the expression of our emotional flexibility or our lack thereof.
Our reactions are derived from our meanings and our meanings are raw
material for self-development . A sure way to flush out the unknown in us is
to train and to facilitate a group getting the ego out of the way.
There is not such a thing as a difficult group , rather there are hidden
parts of ourselves that we may not be in touch with.
Self- awareness is a prerequisite for embracing what needs to be accepted
and sometimes to be changed.
When we are training three main variables to pay attention to are:
a. The way we relate to each individual.
b. The emotions we go through.
c. the meanings behind it.
What we aim at when we train others, regardless of the content is to:
1. Develop a relationship that is real, not just to appear friendly and
politically correct.
2. Share emotions and really connect with others
3. To experience whatever it is without labeling it.
4. Being aware of our frames, and to remember that they are just
that....frames.
Some people say that is far too common to experience anxiety while we are
in front of a group, I don't buy that theory .
I rather think that every person we meet and every tone of voice we hear
may trigger in us many meanings that perhaps may need to be embraced and be
transformed.
There is a very simple process that I would like to share with you and
can be used whenever you are working as a trainer:
1. Be aware of what you are feeling and in which part of your body you are experiencing it and bring to bear a state of acceptance and curiosity.
2. If you have already labeled the feeling, go on and just "feel and observe" , refusing to name it.
3. Be aware of the connections you might have and recognize them as the "connections" your nervous system has created.
4. Enjoy the process and while doing that , give yourself permission to
fail and not take yourself so seriously.
Cicle these four steps and meta-state yourself with it as many times as
needed.
To your best
